Shelford is a village and civil parish in the Rushcliffe borough of Nottinghamshire. The population of the former civil parish of Shelford and Newton at the 2011 census was 673.
Shelford contains the Old English word scelde for shallowness; perhaps also a shallow place, + ford (Old English), a ford, so “Shallow ford”.
