Southwell is a minster town in the district of Newark and Sherwood in Nottinghamshire, England. It includes Southwell Minster, the cathedral of the Anglican Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. A population of under 7,000 rose to 7,297 at the 2011 Census, and was put at 6,853 in 2019. The origin of the name is unclear. It lies on the River Greet, about 14 miles (22 km) north-east of Nottingham.
